Russell City, 2012, digital images, dimensions variable.
Russell City, a part of Hayward, California where African-American WWII industry workers once lived and where blues clubs thrived, is now defunct--taken over through eminent domain in 1964. This is part of a larger series of works about Russell City. These images (of persons unknown) were found as printing plates in the storage of a large printing shop still in the Russell City area. The plates were taken out into the sun and photographed with a digital camera and, usually, reversed from “negative” to “positive” images in digital editing software.
